Nigretta one of Hamilton’s most successful businesses
The business known as Nigretta of Hamilton can unarguably be counted as one of the most successful producers of hand crafted wooden household products in the Hamilton region. They are most well known for their Australian Made and Eco friendly chopping boards, chopping blocks, tables and chairs.
For over 40 years the workshop has been a place of manufacture and community for many Hamilton and district family members born with an intellectual disability. It is a place where people with disability can find meaningful and sustainable employment, they are part of a community and contribute to the success of the organisation.
Nigretta’s manager Josh Membrey cannot put a figure on how many workers and staff have graced the factory floors over the years but he knows that one or two among the current 22 workforce have been there for almost all that time.
November 21 2015 marked the 40th Anniversary celebrated by many former and current employees. A special surprise for all was the special guest speaker ‘Tamie Fraser’, wife of the late Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser. Mrs Fraser was present 40 years ago when Nigretta of Hamilton was officially unveiled and declared open for business.
