Nigretta one of Hamilton’s most successful businesses
The business known as Nigretta Furniture can unarguably be counted as one of the most successful in Hamilton.
For 40 years the workshop has been a place of manufacture and community for many Hamilton and district family members born with an intellectual disability.
Current Nigretta manager Josh Membrey cannot put a figure on how many workers and staff have graced the factory over the years but he knows that one or two among the current 17 workforce have been there for almost all that time.
Some of those former workers and staff of the premises once known as Hamilton Sheltered Workshop will return for a small celebration to mark the 40th anniversary on November 21
The special guest will be Tamie Fraser, wife of the late Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser. Mrs Fraser was there 40 years ago to officially unveil the plaque declaring the workshop open.
