WDEA Works School Leavers Employment Supports (SLES) lands Tyson his dream transport job in Mildura
Ever since he was young Tyson Chadwick wanted to work in the transport industry, inspired by his dad who is a truck driver.
In December 2021 Tyson has commenced employment in a role that he considers to be his dream job; detailing trucks for LRT/VCT Refrigerated Transport.
Supported through SLES Tyson was able to investigate similar career paths that still aligned with his interests. Working with his Employment Preparation and Engagement Consultants Tracey and Nathan they prepared a resume, practised interviews, visited different workplaces and looked at how Tyson could fulfil his dream career working with trucks.
WDEA Works reached out to LRT/VCT Refrigerated Transport to see if they had any employment positions available. Allan agreed to meet with Tyson for an interview.
Allan was immediately impressed with Tyson’s knowledge and passion for the trucks and industry as well as his upbeat personality. He was happy to offer Tyson a job assisting with the detailing of the trucks.
Tyson loved meeting Ian and receiving a tour of his new workplace “the interview went well and Allan gave me a tour around, I got to see lots of different kinds of trucks and the huge wash bay,” he said.
In his new role, Tyson will be busy washing the trucks down, with up to 8 trucks to clean per day – he will be very busy. He is excited to be moving into employment so he can earn his own money and buy the things he wants.
Nathan and Tracey are both excited for Tyson and sad that with open employment he will slowly transition from WDEA Works SLES into the Disability Employment Services (DES) arm of the business, both still supported from their Langtree Avenue office.
“We’re so proud of everything Tyson has accomplished and happy that he’s found his dream job. He’s such a character around the office, our whole team is just so pleased he has found his dream job” said Tracey.
In their new employment arrangement, both Tyson and Allan will be supported by WDEA Works Employment Consultant Leith. Leith is looking forward to working with them both, providing workplace support with anything either of them needs.
When asked if he would recommend SLES to others Tyson said “yes, they listened to what I wanted and my interests. They helped me get to where I wanted to be and made my dreams come true.”
