Mona Finds Rewarding Career in Individual Support in Portland

It is an exciting time for Mona Martinez as she secures employment as an Ageing Care Support Worker after completing her Certificate III in Individual Support with are-able Education and Training Portland.

Are-able first introduced the program in 2022, and it has allowed Mona to learn new skills in an area she was interested in and take her career in a new direction.

The course focuses on providing person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. Completing her work placement with Glenelg Shire Council Home and Community Care (HACC) Services and Bupa Portland has given Mona the opportunity to build on her skills and familiarise herself with the ageing support workplaces.

“I love that l can assist ageing people to stay in their own homes longer, remain as independent as possible and support them in their activities of daily living,” Mona states.

Suzanne Roll, Trainer & Assessor, says that “Mona has been a pleasure to teach and has grown significantly with her knowledge and skills in her time training. Mona brings a kind and gentle approach to her work and has been an important part of our class as she has offered support to other learners and is always ready to take on new tasks and have a go at any activities.”

Mona has now been employed at Glenelg Shire Council HACC Services and is enjoying the career she has worked towards in her studies.

“The are-able training gave me a vivid look at what the ageing support industry looks like. The training assisted me to be holistically prepared for this new job role. I am thankful to are-able for the opportunity,” says Mona. “It has helped me build my confidence and grow as a person.”

Congratulations Mona on a wonderful achievement.
